We drove up to SA from McAllen, Tx where we had been visiting our Daughter, SIL and grandchildren. It was a 4 hour drive and we were able to check into our room early at Comfort Inn Riverwalk. We decided to do the Mission tour that afternoon since it was a Sunday and we felt that the traffic would be lighter, then we walked everywhere else on Monday.
We toured all 4 of the missions and enjoyed them immensely. We took the guided tour at Conception%26#39; and just walked and read at the other 3. It was cold and misty, but very enjoyable. Our favorite was Espada. My husband enjoyed the mission tour more than the Alamo.
We walked down to the Riverwalk for dinner and ate at Texas Land and Cattle. Very nice dinner, no waiting. We had decided on steak before ever arriving, but I changed my mind at the last and got the chicken fried steak, which was a good choice. We also had the steak nachos. I could not eat all of mine and got a to go box! We walked on the Riverwalk just to get our bearings as it started misting rain so we headed back to the hotel. We opted to walk instead of the shuttle and did fine.
On Monday we ate Texas waffles at the hotel, stopped by the Cathedral and then headed to the Alamo arriving before they opened. I had not packed a sweatshirt or jacket, only a light sweater and was very cool. We watched the movie in the welcome center and then toured the grounds, stopping in the gift shop for a sweat shirt! The Alamo was very moving and I felt sad for the all the people who died there, I had not been prepared for that. We then left and headed down to the Riverwalk to take a boat ride, which was very enjoyable. My husband had spotted a Hooters in the Rivercenter Mall and that is where we had lunch, (we don%26#39;t have a Hooters yet where we live) so after lunch we walked around the shops and by mid afternoon, we were at Boudro%26#39;s.
I head read about Boudro%26#39;s on TA and knew I had to have a Prickly Pear Margarita and guacomole. We had walked by Sun. night, but they were seating for dinner only. So Monday afternoon, we sat on river side and drank 2 Margaritas, had the guacomole and split a seafood tostoda, which was SUPERB! It was also my birthday and they brought us a slice of Lime Chess Pie with a candle and it too was SUPERB. We did not eat any supper that night, but if we had, I would have insisted we go back to Boudro%26#39;s!!!
We wander a little more then head to hotel to pack to leave bright and early - pulling away form the hotel at 5:45 am for our 13 hour drive home.
Great birthday trip!

And a great trip report! Sounds like a fun time. So glad you did the mission tour- not everyone takes the time or goes to even one, other than the Alamo. And happy to hear you had good time despite the weather. San Antonio really is a great place to visit, isn%26#39;t it?

Yes, everyone was very friendly. We were also surpised at how clean and well kept the Riverwalk was. They do a good job at keeping the panhandlers, etc out of the Riverwalk.
