advice needed for Clear Lake area and Kemah Boardwalk

Planning a 3 day family trip to Clear Lake area in March and staying at Homewood Suites on Seawolf and Bay Area Blvd. What local restaurants are kid friendly and near hotel and/or on the way to Kemah Boardwalk? What are the best sights for children ages 4-12 on the Kemah Boardwalk? What about the Kemah Aquarium?

Thanks!

Are you interested in eating at the Kemah Boardwalk or outside of there? Joe%26#39;s Crab Shack is always a hit with the kids. It%26#39;s at the Kemah Boardwalk. Outside of the boardwalk, there are a slew of restaurants on the Gulf Freeway between NASA Parkway and Bay Area Blvd on both sides of the freeway. There is a Mexican restaurant -- Pappasitos -- on the east side just north of NASA Parkway. There is also several Italian restaurants on Bay Area just east of I-45.

What type of food/restaurant are you interested in?

The Aquarium is a fun place to eat with kids. They%26#39;ll enjoy it. There%26#39;s also a stingray tank downstairs that you can pay to let them feed them. There%26#39;s a small train on the Boardwalk that can take you around, as well as some amusement park type rides. There is also Joe%26#39;s Crabshack huge boat that you can take out into the Bay and back. That%26#39;s a very family-friendly ride. They do sing alongs while going out and back.

Depending on what you%26#39;re interested in food-wise, you%26#39;re staying in the right part of town! There%26#39;s everything right around you.

SInce you are staying for 3 days - you might try seeing the Kemah Boardwalk one day, Space Center Houston on another (kids love it) and you%26#39;ll be close to it, and kids also like Moody Gardens in Galveston or the Schlitterbahn water park in Galveston

Be sure to get an all day pass ($16/person) for the rides at Kemah. It is worth the money, as individual rides are about $3.50. The all day bracelet provides a lot of freedom to try all the rides and keep riding the ones the kids like.

Tequilla Willie%26#39;s and BJ%26#39;s Brewery are good restaurants....also El Lago Burrito Company....all on Bay Area Blvd. Your entire family will get a LOT of food for a very small price at El Lago. At the end of Bay Area, near the mall are lots more restaurants to choose from. You will have no problem finding food in that area....whether you want fast food or a nice sit down meal.

On the way to the Boardwalk is Mario%26#39;s Pizza in Seabrook (at the intersection of NASA Parkway and 146). It is good food at a good price in a convenient location for your activities.

If you go to Galveston for Moody Gardens, I would eat before you leave Clear Lake, unless you want seafood....or pricey food at Moody Gardens.

Tequila Willies and El Lago Burrito Company have both closed. One is now a sportbar and the other a burger place.

If you decide to venture out and head to Galveston to Moody Gardens, don%26#39;t eat there, the food is tasteless and overpriced. Instead, try Happy Buddha on 61st they are really great especially the tempura shrimp.

Two great places to eat in Seabrook on your way to Kemah Boardwalk...Classic Cafe in Seabrook on Nasa Rd 1 on right side before 146, and Tookie%26#39;s on 146 (on the left) just after turning right onto 146 towards Kemah - before bridge. I%26#39;ve never had a bad meal at Classic Cafe...their almond shrimp are great, along with their chocolate sheetcake. At Tookie%26#39;s, they%26#39;re known for their great hamburgers and onion rings. Both places are casual, laid-back restaurants and you will get more (and better food) for your money!! Good Luck and enjoy your trip!!

Thank you for the info! We are planning to visit the Spacecenter (for my preschooler) and San Jacinto monument as my oldest daughters are history buffs. I%26#39;m not a fan of Joe%26#39;s Crabshack even though it is kid friendly. The non-chain sites sound good. We like all kinds of American and regional foods. We are so excited about our trip and our choice of the Clear Lake area!

Clasic Cafe is great. A family oriented informal cafe, good prices and good food. An extensive boat brokerage and dock area next to the resturant.

Try Tookies for burgers, Marios for pizza, San Lorenzo for Mexican (fm 2094) 1st light to the right past the turn for the Kemah Boardwalk about 4 miles down. In between South Shore Harbour and Highway 146.

If you want good mexican food try La Brisa on 146 the food is very good and price is great, on saturday and sunday they have a this amazing deep fried stuffed avacado with shrimp, fajitas and carnitas for $9.99. For good italian go to Antonio%26#39;s on fairmont and 146, they are closed on sundays. For good seafood try Papaduex in seabrook (right across the bridge from kehma board walk) or monument inn on BattleGround rd next to the San Jacinto Monument. Papaduex and Monument inn are good but will cost a little more than the first two ($20-25 per person)
