When is best time

Thinking of s.a. in april or may any suggestions on weather?

When is best time

My opinion is that you can%26#39;t beat April in San Antonio. Gorgeous weather, Poteet strawberries, bluebonnets in bloom, Fiesta (April 20-27 this year). *Sigh*

Here%26#39;s a link to the San Antonio Convention and Visitor%26#39;s Bureau which has a chart for average monthly temperature:

If you are coming to sun and swim, you may prefer May.

When is best time

thanks for the suggestion, What is the fiesta?

Mardi Gras for families. :-) No, that description doesn%26#39;t do it justice.

It%26#39;s a city-wide festival in San Antonio... very fun.

And not-to-be-missed during Fiesta is Night In Old San Antonio, aka NIOSA (nye-oh-sa):

Owl, it was timely reading your post, we spent Christmas/NY in Zihautenejo. Our airline was overbooked so we have a free flight...and had narrowed the choices down to San Antonio, St.Pete, Fla and Myrtle Beach...and we do want to go in April....sounds like SA may be the best choice.

The fiesta sounds interesting...do you have a hotel you could recommend around the riverwalk (or where ever the action is) that isn%26#39;t too expensive?

We want to golf a bit too...any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Lululemon

Fiesta has something for everyone. A lot of the events are set up for large crowds and drinking. If you%26#39;re into that, Fiesta Oyster Bake, NIOSA, Taste of New Orleans would be suggestions. Both Taste of New Orleans and Oyster Bake feature good live music also. I like NIOSA because of all of the different foods, but I now only go if I can land a volunteer spot at one of the booths. After working my shift, I have a home base where I can hang out and not get beer spilled all over me.

Some of my favorites -

Fiesta Arts Fair at Southwest School of Art and Craft - This is a jurried art show held on the grounds with live music. It%26#39;s relatively small, doesn%26#39;t cater to the college drinking crowd.

Fiesta Pooch Parade at the Alamo Heights Swimming Pool- This is a low key free event where folks bring their pets all dressed up for Fiesta.

Cornyation- definitely an adults only parody of local and world events put on by (mostly) gay and lesbian community.

Fiesta In Blue (Air Force Musical Extravaganza)- Free event but you need a ticket. Great band music.

King William Fair - Street fair with a homegrown parade. Arts and Crafts booths and music.

Earth Day Celebration at Woodlawn Lake - Activities for kids that promote ecology. Free

Here%26#39;s the website for Fiesta - http://www.fiesta-sa.org/

There%26#39;s lots of fun events - some of my favorites that aren%26#39;t necessarily packed with people - Earth Day, Fiesta Arts Fair, Fort Sam Fireworks, Fiesta In Blue (Air Force Musical Extravaganza,)Fiesta Gartenfest, Cornyation adults only,) Battle Of Flowers Band Festival, Fiesta Pooch Parade, King William Fair.

Octoboy!! You have NO IDEA how glad I am to see you posting!! Hope you%26#39;ve been off having a blast somewhere. I%26#39;m in over my head. :-)

lulu - I%26#39;ve never stayed on the Riverwalk. We lived there (and thus didn%26#39;t stay on the Riverwalk) and now whenever we go we stay at the Hyatt Hill Country or La Cantera (both of which have great golf courses, according to my husband). If we want to do the Riverwalk thing, we just drive into town. But... we have a car and know our way around. So I%26#39;m not sure I%26#39;d recommend that plan of action for others.

Sorry... had one of those weird ';realization'; moments.... completely forgot...

As far as ';where to stay'; for Fiesta, I don%26#39;t think it really matters. When we lived in San Antonio (and it%26#39;s been 8 years, so confirmation of this would be appreciated) we would park our car in a Park and Ride and take a shuttle. It was the easiest way to go; the shuttles run frequently and the parking lot was at a mall so spaces were plentiful.

So, now I%26#39;m thinking maybe too much activity, too many people...

anyone been to St. Pete Beach or Myrtle Beach?

LOL lululemon! Sorry.... didn%26#39;t mean to scare you away. Don%26#39;t give up on San Antonio just yet.

First, I haven%26#39;t been to St. Pete%26#39;s Beach, but I%26#39;ve been to North Redington Beach (stayed at a Doubletree I think) just north of it. It was very nice, but I liked the beaches in Destin better. The ones in N. Redington weren%26#39;t as wide. Haven%26#39;t been to Myrtle Beach (yet!).

Now just because Fiesta is going on for seven days in April doesn%26#39;t mean San Antonio isn%26#39;t worth a trip. :-) Honestly, there%26#39;s so much else to do and it%26#39;s a big enough city that you can visit San Antonio during Fiesta and not be bothered by crowds. April in San Antonio is just a wonderful month.

From the sounds of your alternative vacations though, I%26#39;d recommend you look into the Hyatt Hill Country or La Canterra. They are far enough away from ';the action'; (yet the action is still accessible) and you%26#39;d have quite a relaxing time. Of your three destinations, San Antonio is the only one that isn%26#39;t primarily a ';beach';. Don%26#39;t know what your tolerance is, but the water in either of those places won%26#39;t be warm enough for ME to swim in come April! LOL.

But... that said... maybe the thing to do is figure out which of those cities would be the most expensive airfare, and save the cheaper trips for when your tickets aren%26#39;t comp%26#39;ed. ;-)

Thanks so much for taking the time to provide this info, Owl..

I will do more homework then make a decision, we do like to golf, shop, relax, eat (and drink wine)...not necessarily in that order.
