Fun Restaurant in Dallas/Arlington for young people

I%26#39;m coming from Iowa to Dallas with 22 college students in early March. On our free day (a Thursday), we plan to go to Ripley%26#39;s Believe It or Not/Wax Museum, enjoy walking around the city a bit (should we go downtown, or to Galleria?), then out to dinner. For Dinner, Baby Doe%26#39;s would have been fun (from a suggestion), but I see it is temporarily closed for renovation. What recommendations do you have, folks? We will be heading east towards Lindale afterwards, but we don%26#39;t mind driving to a fun place in the Metro area.

Thanks for your ideas!

Barry

BTW, last year the group went to Medieval Times, which was fun for them. But we%26#39;d rather spend a little less money, more like $15 to $25 each compared to nearly $50 for Medieval Times.

If you go to the Galleria, I love the Grand Lux Cafe. Not sure how college kids would like it, though.

If I were a college kid, I would want to go where the ';action'; is. Somewhere in the West Village (McKinney Ave and Lemmon Ave).

Or Mockingbird Station (Mockingbird and I-75).

Two exits west from Ripley%26#39;s is Arlington with lots of dining options.

Palomino%26#39;s has a Vegas style buffet for about $10 a person.

Papadeaux%26#39;s has Cajun seafood.

My favorite is Rawlings All American Grill inside the Texas Rangers Ballpark(Ameriquest Field). Sports bar atmosphere with games and lots of TV%26#39;s. It is in a luxury suite setting overlooking looking the baseball field. There are no games in March, but still a lot of fun.

Thanks, Pepper and Cozbobby for your suggestions! Do you know anything about Monica%26#39;s Aca y Alla at 2914 Main St., Dallas? I found it in the Restaurants section here, and the food style and price sounds about right. But I have no idea what ';Deep Ellum'; means (from a Frommer%26#39;s review: ';Tex-Mex in a funky Deep Ellum setting';). Is this a region of Dallas - my guess from the context? Sorry, I%26#39;m a clueless northerner!

If you are coming back into Dallas to eat, I would like to suggest Snuffers. They are located in the Greenville area and close to SMU. You can usually find college aged kids there all the time. The burgers are huge and nobodies, I mean nobodies cheese fries are better than theirs. Just a suggestion.

Deep Ellum is an artsy, ecletic part of the city just east of downtown. Lots of restaurants and bars. It has gone down a little the past year or so, as some of the good spots have closed down. Still, it would be a good choice.

I meant eclectic.

Monica%26#39;s is a fun loud place.

Deep Ellum is on the other side of the highway overpass (I-45/I-75) from downtown. It definately has a seedy element, so be sure to keep up your street smarts.

Another good fun place (in the same block) is All Good Cafe - they usually have live music on Thurs nights.

We%26#39;re going to try Deep Ellum, and Monica%26#39;s with our group. The manager e-mailed their specials, and they have Enchilada plates for $4.50 Thursday nights, so we%26#39;ll have a wide range of options for everyone%26#39;s price range. And I%26#39;ll insist our small-town kids stay in groups of 3 or more as we explore the area before dinner.

Excited for our visit down south,

Barry

Hi blawrensen:

Baby Doe%26#39;s is actually no more. It has been demolished and all the remnants gone. I would suggest going downtown, because the Galleria is just that, the Galleria. It%26#39;s located Northwest of downtown and is only a business district. While the mall is home to the exclusive dept stores and the year round ice skating rink, I think you would get more out of downtown. Plus, it would take an hour or more to get from Ripley%26#39;s in Grand Prairie up to the Galleria in Addison. Downtown has the AA Center where you could go to the Maverick%26#39;s and Stars pro shop if you wanted to. Then, there is Dealey Plaza were JFK was shot and the 6th floor museum in downtown. The downtown area is neat in itself, because the JFK Memorial is down there, several museums, the Dallas world aquarium, Reunion tower....that has a restaurant at the top of the ball where you can look out over the city..., Old City Park, etc...I could go on and on about what%26#39;s down there. Hard Rock Cafe is in the area, too. You will probably have more fun in downtown than going to the Galleria only.
