Are dogs allowed in most San Antonio Parks? Riverwalk?

We will be visiting San Antonio with our very well-manered shih tzu. We%26#39;ll be there for a few days and are hoping to take him with us to an outdoor eatery or two. Is San Antonio pretty dog-friendly..as far as allowing them at outdoor tables at restaurants...and within most of the parks? He is always leashed, so we don%26#39;t care about off-leash areas unless it is fenced.

We are from Portland, Oregon..which is the dog-friendly capital...so we don%26#39;t want to assume all cities throw out the welcome mat for dogs!

Thank you for any tips!

you can walk your dog anywhere except for the Alamo grounds. walking with dogs around the riverwalk/downtown/parks is just fine otherwise - however, i seriously doubt you%26#39;ll be able to dine (even at an outside table) with your dog. i%26#39;ve never seen dogs at restaurants, and i%26#39;ve tried eating at restaurants (with tables outside) with my dogs - but we were denied service. i don%26#39;t think san antonio is as dog-friendly as Portland unfortunately.

You might try the Canyon Cafe at the Quarry.

I know they used to have dog events on the outdoor patio with the Humane Society, and you might call ahead and see if you could eat outside with your dog.

There%26#39;s also a place close to downtown, and I can%26#39;t remember the name of it but i%26#39;ll find out and post it. It%26#39;s in a slightly sketchy area, but the food is great, burgers and mexican. VERY casual. Dogs are very welcome there. It%26#39;s mostly outdoors, and I believe they have live music. Just depends on what kind of atmosphere you%26#39;re in the mood for.

It%26#39;s called La Tuna. VERY casual, great food.
