My finacee is turning 50 in May. Thinking of maybe bringing him to Austin. Are there any motels with Happy Hours? any grand ideals? thanks
50th birthday trip
Any of the larger hotels (Driskill, Omni, Radisson, Intercontinental, Hyatt) have some variety of bar- however, wherever you stay in downtown Austin, you will be within walking distance of bars with happy hours. We always like to stop at Little Woodrow%26#39;s- it has outdoor seating and lots of locals- and Fox and Hound- for the rooftop- and the Gingerman for the variety of beers. We always meander south across the river to the Aussie Bar, especially when volleyball is in full swing. Lots of little dive joints up and down 6th St- we just listen for music we like and pop in- we like the Blind PIg and Maggie Mae%26#39;s, rooftops again- or you might stop by the Iron Cactus if you want something a little nicer.

stormie, it would be helpful if you post your hotel budget.
If your husband enjoys comedy I would take him to Esther%26#39;s Follies. It%26#39;s a great place and a great show, kind of a vaudeville/comedy/magic act. You could easily walk there if you%26#39;re staying downtown. It%26#39;s especially close to the Driskill and the Hilton. If you%26#39;re looking for a very special historic hotel, the Driskill would be my choice.
