Starting our trip in El Paso

We are flying into El Paso on St Patricks day and flying out a week later. We are planning to go to Carlsbad caverns as we are big on National Parks and outdoor activities. We are not into nitelife and fine expensive dining. We thought about driving to Albuquerque to visit the mountains but thought it might be kinda cool this early in the year. our other thought was head west toward Tucson( although we%26#39;ve been there) since it would surely be warm there. We are from Eastern PA so we want a %26#39;spring break';. So want advice on the weather as well as what to see along the way for both destinations . We saw things like old Tuscon studios and Rawhide I thought they were both lame, liked Sonora Desert Musuem but already saw that twice. My husband wants to revist Tombstone since we got there too late to see much and stay maybe one nite there. He loves old west stuff where would be a good place to stay in Tombstone that has a western theme . I also like to eat decent food any tips on great food? Linda

Starting our trip in El Paso

Hi Linda

Have you considered to visit Big Bend NP,Tx on this trip. It%26#39;s a great place to visit in March but it%26#39;s high season and a reservations are recommended.

There are three itineraries from El Paso I can recommend for a week.

1.

Day 1. El Paso-Guadalupe Mountains NP (great views on El Capitan.) This is a hiking park, no car access. Then to Carlsbad Caverns NP.

Day 2. All day CCNP

Day 3: and 4.Drive from CC to Davis Mountains. Things to do and see. Davis Mountains, Marfa Lights, Balmorhea SP, Mc Donald Observatory and more. Lovely area.

Day 5. To Big Bend NP driving tx 170 from Presidio to Lajitas. Very scenic.

Day 6: BB NP

Day 7: Back to El Paso.

2.

1. From El Paso to Carlsbad C.

2. CCNP

3. From CC to Roswell, Lincoln and Ruidoso

4. Ruidoso area.

5. Ruidoso-Cloudcroft-White Sand NM-Las Cruces-Silver City

6. Silver City

7. Silver City-El Paso

Another option to Tombstone:

1. El Paso-Ruidoso area

2. Ruidoso-White Sands NM-Las Cruces-Silver City

3. Silver City

4. Silver City-Lordburg (2 ghosttowns nearby)-Tombstone.

5. The Tombstone/Bisbee area.

6. Thombstone/Bisbee-Chiricahua NM-Lordsburg.

7. Lordburg-Deming-Columbus (short visit into Mexico)-El Paso.

Many other possibilities.

Please make inquiries on weather condition in mountenous area%26#39;s like Ruidoso/Cloudcroft.

Maybe combine Carlsbad and Tombstone but that will be much driving. For nature scene and NP%26#39;s route 1 would be my choise.
