I currently work from home and I am considering relocating to Houston. I am a young single female. I have no children and no real restrictions as to where I could live.
I am looking for a nice suburban area to purchase a home that has a nice vibe and interesting activities all of it%26#39;s own. I%26#39;d like to have many conveniences near me without always having to drive into the city.
I was wondering if someone could suggest a nice area? By nice I mean an area thats clean, pretty with churches, low crime and shopping :0)
Thanks so much for your help.
Relocating to Houston
If I were to move back to Houston - I would definitely live in either The Woodlands (north) or in Clear Lake (south). In my opinion, those are the two best ';suburbs'; around Houston. You%26#39;d want to check them both out before your move.
Relocating to Houston
Agree with the above poster - Woodlands or Clear Lake. However, being young and single, if you are interested in nightlife, museums, etc. then Midtown might be a nice choice - located just outside of downtown and very up and coming area. One thing to note, you mentioned not wanting to drive into the city very often and Midtown would put you in the heart of the city.
The Woodlands has all the things you are looking for and is on the far North side of Houston. Clear Lake has all those same things as well and is on the far South side of Houston, sort of in-between Houston and Galveston so you are about equal distance from the ocean and the central business district if that interests you at all.
Any of these choices and you will have a safe community with all the conveniences you could ever ask for at your fingertips.
Thank you both, I really appreciate the response.
I have another question for you; how is the flooding situtation?
Is either of these places either more or less likely to flood than the other?
Not really -- Basically anywhere you live in Houston can have the capacity to flood given the right amount of rain in a short amount of time.
Often when we have downpours, road and feeder roads will become impassible forcing you to find an alternate route or wait it out. Fortunately they drain off as soon as the rain ends, unless of course it is one of those deals where it rains for days on end - and that is not too frequent.
In the event of a hurricane, you are more likely to flood on the South side due to proximity to the Gulf. On the North side, you are more like to have a tree fall on your home due to high hurricane winds rather than flooding. Just a much more heavily wooded area of town.
Anything north of the 1960 area is nice. If you will be working out of your home you may want to consider Conroe TX.
