Priceline.com/Houston Hotels

Thinking of bidding for a 4 star hotel on priceline.com, have used them the past 2 years and got great hotels in Atlanta %26amp; Orlando. However I had to put a couple of areas to stay before bidding - have been advised the Galleria area is a good place to stay, what about Downtown area also ? Any other tips about using the priceline site would be gratefully accepted.

Thanks

I think the area depends on what you are doing, really. The Galleria area is good for overall, but if your interest are in the downtown area (sports, business), I would stay there. Some nice hotels downtown are the Lancaster and Hotel Icon.

Have never used priceline. I usually book thru hotel website, hotel direct or 800 numbers.

Welcome to Houston!

Downtown is close to museums (on light rail line), medical center, sports venues, restaurants %26amp; nightclub area.

To check out downtown venues go to www.deda.org

Thanks everyone I will check the websites out :)

A good friend of mine usually does Priceline at least twice a month for his hotel stays on business trips here in Houston and stays either in Downtown, Galleria, or on an odd occassion Medical Center. Usual choice for a 3- or 4-star in Downtown have been either the Crowne Plaza or the Doubletree. In the Galleria, it%26#39;s either Sheraton Suites, Marriott Residence Inn, or Hampton Inn. I%26#39;ve checked out each room and they%26#39;ve been pretty good, though I%26#39;d rank the Downtown ones higher. Overall, it all depends on what you plan to do in Houston. Galleria%26#39;s is rather centrally located and ideal if you rent a car. Otherwise, staying in Downtown allows you to be connected to the ';backbone'; of the city by using Metro Light Rail. The Theater District of Downtown, the nightlife of Midtown, artistic beauty of the Museum District, and the heart of the Texas Medical Center are along Metro Light Rail.

Downtown can be a ghost-town after hours, but it depends on what you%26#39;re looking for and which part of downtown you%26#39;re in... The galleria area is more 24/7 and varied. Regardless of where you stay in Houston - you need a car.

This site has been my salvation the few times I%26#39;ve bid for hotels on Priceline:
