Dallas Family Vacation Ideas

We are coming from Kansas with 3 kids (ages 14,13 %26amp;10) and staying near the Galleria. Would love some tips on FUN family things to do. We will be there from 3/16 thru 3/20/07.

The St. Pats day parade, is it fun? Where is it? What else are great nuggets to do or great restaurants in the area? Any insight is great. Thanks!

There%26#39;s always the parade on Greenville Ave...but it isn%26#39;t always kid-friendly. The time I went, the parade started witha drag queen in a convertible holding up a giant inflatable ';male-member';. That pretty much set the tone....and it is FUN!!!

I%26#39;m not sure...but there still may be a tamer parade downtown.

Six Flags should be open while you%26#39;re here.

In the Galleria, I Iike the Grand Lux Cafe...same as the one in Las Vegas.

On one of the days you%26#39;re here I%26#39;d take a train ride from Dallas to Fort Worth. It%26#39;s about an hour from Union Station to downtown Fort Worth. Get off at the ITC (internodal transfer center) and take the route 7 bus to the University district (10 minutes). Or you could take a cab over to the Cowgirls Hall of Fame in the Museum district (very close--just down 7th St--shouldn%26#39;t cost much).

The Cowgirls Museum is a blast and your kids should have a great time there. With the price of a ticket you also get a ticket to the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History which is a block down the street.

The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History is also great fun. These are small museums which are nice for kids and you don%26#39;t get tired of them, even both in one day. The Cowgirls Museum has a spectacular gift shop. The Sci Mus has a gift shop that%26#39;s not as interesting to me, but is to kids.

If you want lunch while you%26#39;re there, there%26#39;s a lunchroom at the Mus of Sci that%26#39;s geared to what kids like (or used to be, ti%26#39;s been awhile since I%26#39;%26#39;ve taken kids over there). There%26#39;s also a very nice cafe at the Kimbell just down the street (more adult and pricier).

Have a light lunch, and then take a cab back downtown and have an early dinner at Cabo Grande which is a really lovely Tex-Mex restaurant on 2nd St %26amp; Main.

Then walk back to the train station while stopping at shops and walking through the Sundance Square area. Do not miss seeing the Chisholm Trail mural that commemorates the great cattle drives that went from Texas to Kansas (the Fort Worth stockyards were built later).

Another option for an evening is to take the kids to see the Texas Tornados in Frisco. On March 17 you can get individual tickets for $15 each. The Stars have similar priced tickets but you%26#39;re hundreds of feet farther away.
