New to SPI, Need hotel ideas...

My husband and I are looking to go for a quick vacation at the end of March to SPI or somewhere in the area on the coast. We%26#39;ve never been to the coast of TX. Any suggestions for places to stay on the water or specific areas to look that may be less touristy? Also possibly taking our 2 year old. Any suggested hotels or condos moderately priced?

Thanks in advance for any info.

Hi

We liked The Tiki on the northern edge. Bit far from down town though. Right at the beach but no restaurant. I guess March is springbreaktime.

Hello: I grew up near south padre island. here is my two cents. galveston has some history and architecture but no beaches they have a rocky coast. padre island is in corpus christi they have an aquarium and a battleship but no real beaches. south padre island is the south end of padre island and it has the best beaches in texas. it is not overly commercialized yet. lot of independant good restuarants. if you go anytime after march 20 you will avoid spring break and it wont be crowded. avoid the week before easter because mexican nationals take over the place. the best value for lodging is the travelodge or the super 8 they are both the nicest travelodge or super 8 I have seen. go to dirty al%26#39;s for lunch diner looks like a dive but food is great $8.50 ofr a pound of peal and eat shrimp. also, manuels in port isabel (the mainland side) is a great experience. mexican food breakfast or lunch. captain roy%26#39;s is a new place that is good. have a great trip

Have to hop in on Mel%26#39;s post.

Corpus Christi has beaches but the best beaches are at Mustang Island just east of CC. 20 miles or so unspoiled beach without the number of high rise buildings. Port Aransas is a tiny beachtown. There%26#39;s also good accomodation.

We%26#39;ve stayed at the Mayan Princess right at the beach (no roads to cross) with 3 pools, one heated, and it%26#39;s some 10 miles from PA on Mustang Island.

All condo%26#39;%26#39;s.

Does anyone know if there are any all-inclusive resorts in this area? Also is there good snorkeling?

Thanks for any info given.

The Peninsula Resort MIGHT be all inclusive, but I am not for sure. I don%26#39;t think there is anything like that on SPI...

Also, I have seen people snorkeling in the ocean, but the surf is too swift and the water too cloudy to see much sealife. I guess you could snorkel in the bay where the water is calmer, but water clarity might still be a problem.

Pam 956-459-1768 rents condos on the island for any price range.

tell her jason the bike taxi guy sent you

You might enjoy Gulf View One its not expensive but has lots to offer. If you call them and dont use an agent its less expensive. Also if you have a 2 yr old theres a Sea Life Rescue Center just across the causeway they have a touching cage for young kids. They also have a great dolphin film the kids love it. Stop by the visitors center when you arrive and you can get all the events at the time of your stay. Have a great trip.
