Texas City, Galveston, Houston trip for first-timers

Will be vacationing in these three cities from 2/16-2/23 for the first time and would gladly welcome all recommendations for sightseeing, and restaurants. We are staying at the Fairfield Inn in Texas City during the whole trip. We are budget-type travelers so nothing fancy in the way of eateries, please. Thanks for your help.

Texas City, Galveston, Houston trip for first-timers

Hi kernelbozo.

You could spend one day in Galveston and tour several things that are inexpensive or free. Riding the ferry from Galveston Island to the Bolivar peninsula is free, and you may get to see dolphins along the way. Visiting the historic Strand area in downtown Galveston is free other than paying for parking, and a lot of fun poking around in the shops. Walking down the seawall would not cost anything and would be a good way to see the coast.

Seawolf Park has an entry fee and also a charge to tour an old WWII submarine and Navy ship. My grandkids love doing this, and we have done it several times.

There is also a small charge to take a tour of one of the old historic homes along Broadway - Bishop%26#39;s Palace is very interesting, and so is Ashton Villa. You could end your sightseeing day by having a seafood lunch or dinner at one of the inexpensive seafood restaurants in town.
