Edelweiss...Burnd out?

The Burnd out question is in reference to the restaurants owner, Burnd Schnerzinger. I have been to this establishment many times over the years and have never enjoyed the food, but the atmosphere made up for it on occasions when trying to entertain friends. The food has always been less than average. The reason everyone that I know of goes is because of the atmosphere and entertainment. That hit an all time low on Friday night.

Burnd provides the entertainment, and if you have never been, it is worth seeing. He has been playing the same set of polka songs for quite some time, but if you only go once a year they never seem to get old. Burnd tries to get the patrons involved in the show. If your food just comes out and you are trying to enjoy your meal while it is still luke warm, this can be a major distraction. Epecially when it comes to the chicken dance. Burnd is very forward when he insists that everyone must participate in this. Burnd seemed to be very offended Friday when the majority of the patrons chose not to participate. After the final song a few children remained dancing on the dance floor. Burnd stormed of the stage, pointed his finger at the children and yelled something along the line that the show was over so be quiet and sit down. It was totally uncalled for and shocked many of the patrons who were near by. The usually visible owner then disappeared and was no where to be seen the rest of the time that I was there.

Usually none of this would have bothered me, but I had invited a German friend who was visiting, and I felt that it made me look bad for suggesting the place. I would still suggest visiting the place once if you have never been, but do not expect good German food. I would suggest Kuby%26#39;s in Highland Park for that.

Edelweiss...Burnd out?

I also had a bad experience at this restaurant last year. We requested a seat by the stage and were given one. A few minutes later we were told that the table was reserved and was asked to move. A party of four was then escorted by the owner to that table. The funny thing is that we called earlier to make reservations and were told that reservations were not accepted unless you had more than 8 in your party. Hmm...

My date had asked the waitress for a special request on her order and was told that it could not be done. When asked why we were told that the entire kitchen staff did not speak Engilsh and she did not speak Spanish. I can not imagine getting authentic German food from an all Hispanic staff.

The man who was doing the entertaining, who I assume was the owner, went around to all the tables asking the customers how everything was. He leap frogged around our table and did not even make eye contact with us. I like to think that it was not because we were the only two black couples in there, but there is no denying that this made us feel very uncomfortable.
