Coming in Jnauary for NHL All star game

We are from Alberta,Canada and coming for 2 nights to go to NHL game and we are staying at Courtyard by Marriott.......Market center. Is there any shopping close by as we won%26#39;t have a vehicle? Also are there any restaurants or attractions of any kinds near by? What about casinos? We will be at the hockey game Wed night but not sure what we will do the rest of the time thanks;-)

Oops was supposed to be January lol and I forgot to ask what is the weather like there that month? We are coming from a bunch of snow so I am sure that will be a treat hahaha

You will be in an area that is not good for walking to restaurants- it is right along the freeway. One good thing- you are next to the Hilton Anatole so you could eat at one of their restaurants. You could take a cab over to the West End (chain resturants, bars, Dallas World Aquarium)- or walk over after the hockey game- or downtown (Union Station, Reunion Tower) and catch DART rail from there to other places around town (North Park mall, Dallas Zoo). There is also an area called Uptown with lots of restaurants and some shops- you could take a cab there and use the Mckinney Avenue Trolley (www.mata.org)to ride around and see some of Dallas.

Texas doesn%26#39;t have any casinos.

Who knows what the weather wil be like!!! Yesterday it was 80; next week it could be 30...it%26#39;s very unpredictable.

What kind of shopping are you looking for?

I like the outlet malls or any mall doesn%26#39;t really matter but I LOVE SHOPPING! LOL Also are there any casinos at all in Dallas?

The nearest casinos are in Oklahoma - about an hour, or so, away.

Many like Grapevine Mills for outlet shopping. But honestly...I never find anything great. In January, you are going to find first-run clothing at major sale prices at any mall - Northpark is my fave and second is Galleria.

we now live in Dallas, formerly from Calgary. The city will be hopping during that time-not quite sure what type of shopping you are looking for but you will likely need to rent a car-or perhaps lite rail DART will get you there. Let me know what you are looking for like a mall or Target-upscale or cheap-Dallas has everything but is definitely a driving city

As you can see-Texas does not have any gambling-we used to love going to the Cainso on Blackfoot trail and now go once in a while to Oklahoma but it takes about an hour each way.

I have never found anything at the Grapevine Mills Mall but you may want to go to the Allen Premium Ooutlt Mall in Allen Texas about 30 mnutes north iof where you will be (go north on 35E, take 635 East to 75N, exit at Stacy Road)

I agree - outlet in Allen is much better.

If you want to look at what shopping is like in Dallas you could go to NorthPark on Northwest Hwy (Loop 12) and Central Expway (Hiway 75). (Many of our major streets have 2 names, you will probably need to know both of them.)

NorthPark is said to be one of the most profitable malls in the United States and one of the oldest but it is continually updated. Neiman Marcus is there as well as BOSS and other high end stores. This mall probably represents a diversity of upper to middle stores and has good dining options. Across the street at Lincoln Park are more good stores.

NorthPark is a Dallas landmark.
