Beach in Corpus Christi?

Is there an actual beach area where you can go in the water and splash around? I haven%26#39;t seen much info on ';beaches'; but being it is on the water, there must be some public beaches around. I have seen the listing for ';bay view'; regarding hotels, is this a swimming area? Can you help?

Beach in Corpus Christi?

No beaches to speak of. A tiny, and I mean TINY, area of sandy beach called Magee Beach near Memorial Coliseum on Shoreline Blvd. There is road work going on in this area right now, so you would have to park away from the beach and walk through the construction area to get there. There is also a beach on the other side of the Harbor Bridge where the aquarium and Lexington are. This is called Corpus Christi Beach. There is more room on this beach than on Magee. These beaches are on the bay, so the waters are fairly calm. You can swim in these two areas, but the rest of CC%26#39;s bayfront is not swimmable.

If you like waves, you should head out to North Padre Island or Mustang Island. The beaches there are ocean front, not bay front. Parts of North Padre are in the Corpus city limits, so you might want to look for hotels or condos out there. Personally, I like Port Aransas better, but my sister-in-law absolutely loves the Holiday Inn SunSpree on North Padre. The beach is right out the back door of the hotel, and they have an outdoor bar area with occasional live entertainment.

Beach in Corpus Christi?

You should stay at either the Quality Inn Surfside or Radisson on Corpus Christi Beach. It is directly across the bridge from the downtown/bayfront area of Corpus Christi and is located directly on a large stretch of calm beach. The U.S.S. Lexington aircraft carrier exhibit is there, as well as the Texas Aquarium. Both are great places to visit and are next door to the hotels within easy walking distance. Also, there is a large concrete jetty that extends into the bay that is great for fishing. And there are several small restaurants in the beach area as well (or you can easily drive over the bridge to downtown Corpus Christi or to the South Padre Island Drive (S.P.I.D.) area where there are tons of restaurants and stores. Personally, I always stay in the Quality Inn Surfside on Corpus Christi Beach each summer, and I love it. Corpus is one of my favorite cities to visit, and a true Texas treasure. It%26#39;s a town that I would love to live in some day.

Oh, also, even if you stay across the bridge on the beach, you should visit the downtown/bayfront area around the T-Heads. It is one of the most beautiful waterfronts I know of. They have been doing construction in the area for a couple of years now, and may still be, but it is still very beautiful.

Go to Mapquest an take a look the area - you%26#39;ll see where the beaches are. Most folks stay on the beach - there%26#39;s tons of places.

Visit ';Google Earth'; for direct beachviews and hotels.

North Beach over by Portland is embarrassing. I can%26#39;t believe they call this a beach! You want the real thing, take about a 45 minute roadtrip to the Padre Island National Seashore. Just go over the JFK causeway and keep driving straight. There is a $10 temporary fee pass that is good for a week or $20 for a whole year, or you could take the road to the left right before the ranger station for free, but that is where all the ';nudies'; hang out. Not good for a family beach, but can be quite entertaining and humerous to drive down. Make sure you take all your beach equipment, including water jugs to wash your feet before leaving...our sand is quite sticky. Don%26#39;t go past the 4-wheel drive sign unless your vehicle has the capability...and you have enough gas to get back...not much fun getting stuck with no cell phone service. Sometimes during the year, the seaweed is bad, but they keep the paid beach cleaner, even though Texas is notorius for the dirties beaches, yeah, real proud of that. But anyway, you can find a nice secluded spot if you drive down far enough, or go closer to Bob Hall Pier and Whitecap Beach if you want to be around more peoples, or partiers. Those beaches are still free. You can see beach conditions and what people are catching out there at http://www.corpusfishing.com People are always posting pics.

I agree with the suggestion to go to Mustang Island State Park. They have showers and restrooms and since you have to pay to get on, there isn%26#39;t a bunch of pot smoking, beer guzzling folk getting in the way of family fun. Just a nice peaceful day at the beach with no rap music blaring. Who could ask for anything more.
